BACnet's "coming out party" was held at the ASHRAE Winter Meeting in Atlanta in January, 1996. It was quite a show! Each workstation displayed the same graphics; one was Mac, three were Intel machines. Of the PCs, two were running Windows, one OS/2. Three were on Ethernet, one on ARCNET. The colored channel moldings above each vendor's "column" indicated the type of local area network: pink for ARCNET, blue for Ethernet, and yellow for LonTalk. Appropriate routers interconnected the various LAN types. The most impressive thing about the booth? All the participating vendors (those that had prototype products available and tested by the exhibition "cut-off" date) happily cooperated with each other to make the booth a reality, hopefully an augury of things to come!
