Maintaining Foreign Device Tables...

In order to facilitate the management of BBMD Foreign Device Tables, three new BVLL functions have been added. They are the Read-Foreign-Device-Table, Read-Foreign-Device-Table-Ack and Delete-Foreign-Device-Table-Entry.

The Read-Foreign-Device-Table message allows the reading of the contents of a BBMD's FDT. This capability will most likely be used only for occasional diagnostic purposes.

The Read-Foreign-Device-Table-Ack message contains the contents of the requested FDT. If a problem occurs, a BVLC-Result NAK message with a result code of X'0040' is to be returned.

The Delete-Foreign-Device-Table-Entry message allows an administrator to delete a specific entry from an FDT. Again, this capability will most likely be used only to resolve a system problem such as when a permanently registered foreign device "goes away" for some reason. If a deletion cannot be carried out, a BVLC-Result NAK message with a result code of X'0050' is to be returned.
